England’s Physical Disability squad pledge to run a marathon a day for charity

England’s Physical Disability cricket squad is aiming to total a marathon a day to help raise funds for the Lord’s Taverners.

The squad, which finished as runners-up in the Physical Disability World Series final summer, has pledged to total 26 miles of running on a daily basis for no less than ten days, as a part of the #TwoPointSixChallenge fundraising drive.

Twelve members of the side are sharing their training efforts online as they look to total their challenge of more than 260 miles.

Callum Flynn, a member of England’s PD squad, said: “Like all athletes, we would like we could be outdoor playing presently, so while we wait to go back the pitch, we all wanted to put our energy into something positive.

“We determined to bring funds for the incredible work of the Lord’s Taverners and with a bit of luck raise the profile of disability cricket at the same time. We need to run a minimum of 260 miles collectively over the next 10 days.

“We realize from our own experiences what cricket can do for people with a disability – how it can give a boost to your confidence, your health and in the end your life. It would be amazing whether we could raise some money to improve the Lord’s Taverners and their life-changing work.”

Tom Harrison, ECB Chief Executive Officer, said: “Our disability squads consistently amaze us with what they achieve both off and on the field. These guys are exceptional cricketers and individuals and we are incredibly proud of what they’re doing to improve the Lord’s Taverners. I’m hoping their appreciable efforts will raise a remarkable amount of cash for the charity.”
